Some of these are like asking “Why don’t healthy people get a bed in a building where people care and cater for them like ill people do” Certain people just need more assistance than others due to things inherent in society.

(I’m not suggesting being female/ of a different sexual orientation/ a minority is akin to being ill to be clear)

It’s only shit stirring if it’s something that gets people arguing about the merits of something without a clear right or wrong. In this case, we all recognize that the argument listed in the screengrab is logical and morally sound.

You asked that certain groups be given the special treatment (I assume permanently?) that we give to the ill, then turned around and said those groups aren’t sick. Why should they be treated like they are then?

Alternately: equality and equal protection under law, or a Balkanized country of pet groups trying to out-victim one another for special privileges?

They need extra assistance sometimes because society treats them like they’re ill. I’m shocked at how people treat my gf sometimes because she’s female. Any discussion gets rerouted to me because I’m the male, she gets treated as a doormat when it comes to work etc.

I get the “life’s not fair, let’s do something” drive, I just don’t see how replacing equality with policies of special privileges will do more than have us view recipients as “ill” members of society. Do you think such programs will every accomplish their goal, or will people who build careers on divisiveness insist they’re needed forever?

Certain initiatives are required because legal equality =/= equality in practice. You can have everyone allowed equal opportunities, but some people still wont allow it in practice. I didn’t suggest we treat them as ill, just that certain people need assistance in certain aspects of life.

I’m in engineering and trust me when I say, we need more initiatives to ensure women can build a lasting career in the field. There are plenty of women who are more than capable but don’t end up in the field for various reasons.
